Heath
Krieger was born and raised in Riverside, California. He
discovered pottery at the age of fourteen and never looked
back. Heath attended Brooks Institute of fine Arts in Santa
Barbara for a short time before opening his own pottery
shop in Solano Beach, which he ran successfully for five
years. The relative tranquility of Prescott, Arizona lured
him away from Southern California in 1978.
The southwestern landscape continues to inspire and
influence Heath’s work. His juniper wood ash glazes,
boulder-like sculptural forms and figurative, kachina-like
sculptures all draw their inspiration from the natural
history of Northern Arizona. Heath’s mastery of
Oriental brushwork showcases both his glazing techniques
and his various influences, transforming animals and plants
into stylized objects of beauty and simplicity.
For more than thirty years, Heath Krieger has produced
unique works in metal and clay, showing in galleries from
California to New York.
In addition, Heath teaches ceramics at Prescott College,
plays jazz saxophone and teaches jazz improvisation.
